WoW Hunter Pets - Ferocity, Tenacity and Cunning

Friday, November 13, 2009

WoW Hunters rely on their pets in all aspects of the game, and being a pure ranged dps class, different pets for them can make a lot of difference. It is important to make a wise choice when deciding on a pet. Hunters pets can be divided into groups based on their abilities: Tenacity, Cunning and Ferocity.

Cunning pets

Cunning pets are perfect for PvP encounters as their talents will provide utility, mobility and flexibility. This group mainly consists of spiders, bats, birds of prey, sillithids, chimeras, ravagers etc. Each of them have very different special skills, i.e. spiders will immobilize targets, bats are able to stun.

PvP hunters often use spiders due to their immobilizing effect, as getting range on your target is very important. Talents used in the Cunning tree will provide more stamina, speed, survivability to your pet and some very fine abilities that can often save your life in PvP like roar of sacrifice which will transfer 30% of the damage from yourself to your pet.

Web - this is the spider ability that will root your target for up to four seconds.

Sonic screech - is the bats ability that can stun a player for up to 2 seconds.

Ferocity

These types of pets are focused on dealing more damage and boosting your own damage as well. They are mostly used in PvE aspect of the game like raids and dungeons, but sometimes are also used in PvP to give a nice niche to your group set up. Ferocity type pets are: Wolves, Core Hounds, Moths, cats, raptors and others. Special abilities of ferocity pets do increased damage to the target or in some cases boost your own dps.

Some hunters tend to use Core Hounds for PvP as their debuff from lava breath will decrease the casting speed of the victim for 25%. Lava breath can really be very useful in PvP when you combine burst damage with that debuff on enemy healer. Wolf's special ability called Furious howl will boost your dps by 320 attack power for 20 seconds with 40 second cool down. Talents of Ferocity tree will either increase your pets survivability or boost your dps.

Tenacity

Tenacity pets don't have abilities to boost your dps or flexibility like cunning pets but have higher stamina and avoidance especially when talented. Special abilities of tenacity pets will force target to attack them and boost their own survivability. Very few tenacity pets are useful for either raiding or PvP-ing. Crab pet is on the other hand very good in PvP as it can pin targets for four seconds and is also hard to kill.

Which pet will suit me best?

This is not an easy question but you should consider which spec you are going to use and which content of the game you are aiming for.

Best PvP pets

Most popular pets in PvP are definitely spiders and crabs for their immobilization effects. Very few hunters still use scorpids for the poison that they can put up on their targets.

Best PvE pets

Best choice for running dungeons and raids is wolf as their special ability will boost your DPS, however some hunters tend to use cats which is not the best option. Beast mastery is focused on your pet damage and thus spirit beasts would probably be the best choice as they are BM hunter only pets with highest damage. Bears, boars and turtles are perfect for tanking and leveling up.

Thinking of traveling with your pet internationally? Here are the TOP TEN international destinations to travel with your pet, and information that will make entering these countries easy and without quarantine.

We are also including information that will help you pass through immigration with ease if you are visiting another country. Keep in mind that this information is subject to change. You can always send an email to Pet Travel inquiring about the latest requirements for travel to an international destination with your pet.

The travel industry knows that pets mean profits. The airlines also want your business as many as 95% of the world's airlines will now transport your pet. If your dog or cat is small enough you can even take it in the cabin with you on many airlines.

The grand cities of Europe are all very pet friendly. Here are four countries and cities that deserve to be on the top ten list.

Belgium, France, Switzerland and Italy are four of the most pet friendly countries we have visited. Traveling with your pet in Europe is easy as there are no longer any borders, so you can travel freely. Distances are small between the cities and even between countries. Getting around is easy as almost all European trains, buses and ferries accept pets on board.

PARIS is easily the most pet friendly city we have visited in Europe. You can dine at any of the thousands of sidewalk cafes in Paris, and you will see pets sitting by their masters or under the tables in nearly all of them. What's more, in this the city of lights well behaved pets can dine inside the restaurant with their owners.

On a Sunday morning you will see well-dressed men and women walking with their very well-groomed pets on a leash out for a Sunday stroll and headed for the nearby park.

Visit the Montmartre district where artists have set up their easels on the sidewalk. For a few francs an artist will create an original painting of your favorite pet.

Immigration into France: To take your pet into France from the United States, Canada, or Mexico, you need just three things. Your pet must be micro chipped with an ISO 15 digit microchip, be vaccinated for rabies, and have the EU form of a veterinary health certificate for France. The immigration officer will just pass you through.

LAKE LUCERNE in Switzerland is well known for its beauty and the quality of its skiing. Rent a chalet for you and your pet near the lifts and you will have a great ski vacation. Just down the street will be a sidewalk cafe with a pet under nearly every table. If your pet does not have a thick coat, you will want to purchase it a nice warm coat to wear.

While visiting Switzerland you will want to see the famous banking capital of Zurich. But Zurich is famous for more than banks it is the home to many of the famous watch makers and chocolatier's.

Switzerland is one of those countries where pets are just a part of everyday life. Due to its location it is just a short drive in a rental car or by train to either France or Italy.

Immigration into Switzerland: To take your pet into Switzerland from the United States, Canada, or Mexico, you need just three things. Your pet must be micro chipped with an ISO 15 digit microchip, be vaccinated for rabies and have the EU form of a veterinary health certificate for Switzerland. The immigration officer will just pass you through.

BRUSSELS is also on our list of top ten destinations. Although your pet may not be welcome in the museums, it will be welcome almost everywhere else. This is a walking city, and if you stayed for a month you would never run out of different places to visit with your pet. There are magnificent parks everywhere, take a walk through the famous antique flea markets, or stroll into Belgium's past at Cinquantenaire Park.

Have you ever ridden a Segway? They look like an oversized skate board with a handle and an electric motor. Brussels is famous for the availability of these little devices that will scoot you around the city at a speed suitable for your pet to run alongside.

Brussels is also known for its exotic night life but you will need to hire a pet sitter as pets are not allowed in the night clubs.

Immigration into Belgium: To take your pet into Belgium from Mexico you need just three things. Your pet must be micro chipped with an ISO 15 digit microchip, be vaccinated for rabies and have the EU form of a veterinary health certificate for Belgium. The immigration officer will just pass you through.

MADRID is one of Europe's oldest cities and worthy of a ranking in our top ten pet friendly places to visit. This is a city of plazas with fountains and statues everywhere. Spaniards love their pets, and they will love yours too if it is well behaved and friendly.

Take your pet on a walk to the Plaza Mayor the so-called "aristocratic centre" of Madrid, home to the stunning Royal Palace, a 17th century monument that combines Baroque and Classical styles. Next to the palace you can find the Plaza de Oriente (square), the Opera House and the modern Almudena Cathedral, consecrated in 1993 by Pope John Paul II.

Another option while visiting Spain is the beautiful Costa del Sol with beautiful white sand beaches running as far as the eye can see. And yes, your pet will be welcome on most of the beaches in the area so if you have a water dog, they will have a chance to sample the warm waters of the Mediterranean.
Immigration into Spain: To take your pet into Spain from the United States, Canada, or Mexico, you need just three things. Your pet must be micro chipped with an ISO 15 digit microchip, be vaccinated for rabies and have the EU form of a veterinary health certificate for Spain. The immigration officer will just pass you through.

The hotels in Europe are much more likely to make your pet welcome as it is such a common practice to take ones pet along on holiday. Or, you can book a lovely home or apartment, which are readily available if you are staying for a week or longer.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN in Mexico is a great destination for the lover of brilliant blue waters and white sand.

My little Shih Tzu named Ruggles and I lived there for a while, and there was virtually no place he was not welcome. If you need exercise there is a small partially outdoor gym where Ruggles would lie in the shade and wait for me. Down at the beach were dozens of small patio restaurants where Ruggles and I would share lunch.

On at least one occasion, we took the deluxe inter-city bus from Playa Del Carmen to Cancun. Ruggles occupied the seat next to me. Not sure if it was legal but no one said a word about it either way.
Nearby by are the Mayan Temples of Chichen-Itza. I do not believe that pets are allowed inside the grounds.

Within two or three kilometers are several caves with underground pools of water. I saw several pets during my visit to these caves.

COSTA RICA is a popular destination for traveling pet owners. Going through customs with your pet is little more than a wave of the hand. If you are looking for exciting gambling and night life, then San Jose is the place for you. There are plenty of pet friendly hotels in the city.

Most people who visit Costa Rica head for the rural areas where tall trees, beautiful birds and magnificent waterfalls are around every corner. Of course, don't forget the rain forest where the brilliant blue butterflies flitter about the lush vegetation. Accommodations in these areas are less elegant but you will find several who will welcome you and your pet.

Immigration:
To enter pet friendly Costa Rica you will need a certificate of good health indicating that your pet if free from disease and has been properly vaccinated. Dogs must be vaccinated for rabies, distemper, hepatitis, lestospirosis, and parovirus, and cats must be vaccinated for rabies.

Rounding out our top ten favorite pet friendly destinations, we travel to the United States. You can bring your pet into the US with only a health certificate stating that it is healthy and has been vaccinated for rabies.

KEY WEST is probably the most pet friendly city in the States. This small town can only be called "laid back" where life goes at slower place. Your pet will be welcome in virtually every hotel, bed and breakfast and motel in the city. Every restaurant has an outdoor dining area where your pet will be welcome and some restaurants even allow small well behaved pets inside.

I visited the city a few years ago and while Ruggles and I were out for a walk I stopped in front of a somewhat elegant restaurant. I was studying the menu and the maitre de came out to speak to me. I asked if Ruggles would be welcome and his response was: does he like beef or chicken?

THE BIG APPLE - NEW YORK deserves a place on our list. It seems that everyone living in this bustling city has a pet. There are so many that the pet walkers will each have six or eight at one time on leashes out for their morning stroll. Sunday in Central park is doggie heaven. Your pet will meet and greet a hundred other pets during your stroll. Then you can stop at one of the outdoor cafes for "coffee and a roll".

This is also the city for the elegant hotel and nowhere is pets more welcome than in an elegant hotel. The higher the price of the room, the more welcome the pet. However, there is a wide range of places where your pet will be welcome. Pet Travel lists over a hundred hotels that welcome pets.

A few years ago Ruggles and I stayed at one of the nicer hotels on Central Park. Late in the afternoon I went down to the bar for a cocktail and took Ruggles along. We were sitting in the bar when the manager came in. He gave Ruggles a little pat and said "I would much rather have a well behaved pet in my hotel than a small child who is not well behaved. " This hotel, like many others, sent a bellman up to my room each morning to take Ruggles for a walk.

Some of the hotels in New York even have room service menus for pets!

ASHEVILLE, North Carolina well deserves a place on the top ten list. More than 50% of the accommodations in Asheville accept pets attesting to its claim as one of America's most pet friendly cities. For the traveling pet owner who loves golf this is a top choice.

During the summer Asheville features a number of outdoor concerts, street fairs, and festivals where your pet will be welcome.

SAN DIEGO is only a short distance from our border. This metropolitan city on the ocean has not one but two "doggie beaches". There are hundreds of pet friendly accommodations in the city and in the surrounding areas. On a recent visit with my new pet also a Shih Tzu whose name is Bear; we stayed at the Sophia Hotel which could not have been more pet friendly. The young women who manned the front desk always stopped to talk with Bear and even offered to babysit him.

Each day we walked to one of the dozen or so outdoor cafes for lunch or dinner. Almost the first thing they would do was to bring Bear a bowl of water.

BEING A COURTEOUS TRAVELING PET OWNER
The range of accommodations and traveling options available to the traveling pet owner continues to expand because these businesses recognize the value of your business. However, you have a responsibility to be a courteous and caring pet owner. Don't let your pet be a nuisance by letting it roam loose or by barking. And, rule number one, be sure to pick up after your pet.

Visiting these pet friendly cities will make for a vacation that you will never forget. Be sure and book your airline tickets early if you are traveling by air. Most of the airlines have a limit to the number of pets per flight. In addition, call or email the pet friendly hotel you are staying in to confirm their pet policies so there will be no surprises at check in. Email us at info@PetTravel.com with any questions. We wish you nothing but happy travels.

Why Not to Buy a Puppy From a Pet Shop?

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

We all have visited pet shops and seen those cute puppies that they sell. Sometimes, we cannot stand looking at their sad faces through the small cages in which they spend their entire day. Your kid comes to you and begs you to buy them that puppy. In a way, you feel guilty if you do not buy that cute puppy. By buying the puppy, you feel that you have helped the animal and also made your kid happy. The truth is that you have not helped the other puppy who will replace the one you just bought and will face the same treatment - i.e. mistreatment.

Puppies that end up at pet stores or pet shops are puppies bred by irresponsible breeders. These are breeders who only breed for volume and profit. They have so many puppies that they cannot find a good home for all of them. So what do they do? They sell the puppy to a pet shop for $200, and then the pet shop keeps the puppy until someone comes along and buys the puppy for $2,000. These puppies are usually not properly health checked and they will not let you to see their parents. The puppies are bred by puppy mills whose main goal is to profit, and profit a lot. In order to do that, they have to have many litters a year to sustain their business. They also need to have someone who will buy them after they distribute them to these pet shops. Someone buying the puppy from the pet shop will only help the puppy millers continue with their high-volume breeding.

Puppies that are kept in crates or cages for the first few months of their lives are not socialized properly. They come in contact with a lot of people and see other puppies, but this is not proper socializing. Being behind bars or glass and having people look at you is not something that will make anyone feel relaxed. As a result, many puppies from pet shops have behavior problems when brought home and can suffer from stress and anxiety. They are also harder to housetrain or housebreak. They will eat, poo, and pee in the same place - their crate/cage - because they had nowhere else to do it while living at the pet shop. Housetraining is one of the most important things to teach a puppy. If not taught on time, you will have to clean up mess for the rest of the dog's life.

Pet shops will usually overprice the puppies because it costs them money to pay for workers, rent, and taking care of the puppies while they are still waiting for a buyer (which can take many months). You will find puppies that are of much better quality directly from responsible breeders and that cost less than a puppy from a pet shop. Even if they tell you at the pet shop that the puppy is purebred, you will never know for sure until the puppy grows up. They might give you some papers saying that the puppy is purebred but on many occasions those papers end up being falsified.

Many puppies bought from pet shops end up with illnesses, genetic problems, and temperament issues later in life. This is because in most cases, the puppy's parents and the puppy are never checked by a qualified veterinarian who can assess if the parents should be bred at all or not. This leads to many puppies that come from pet shops having health problems, as well as, behavioral problems.

So next time you go to a pet store or pet shop and you see a puppy for sale, remember how that puppy got there and what will happen if you buy him. It may look like you are doing the right thing by saving the cute puppy but in reality you are just continuing the puppy mill cycle. It would be better to go and adopt a cute puppy from the shelter, purebred or not, for $100 than to pay $1,000 and support puppy mills and dog overpopulation.

Find more information on responsible purebred dog breeders on our regularly updated dog blog. Responsible breeders are welcomed to join our dog breeders community, and showcase their healthy, sound dogs that reflect their proper breed standard.

Loving All Pets - What You Need to Know

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

With the concept of Loving All Pets being the main topic of this article, you need to keep in mind that different people have their own idea of what a pet is. This leads to a short explanation of what different kinds of pets there are.

Normal pets can come under the heading of small pets such as a dog or a cat although some dogs would be considered large. Small pets can be anything from a hamster to a lizard. Small pets are a great way for kids to get involved with pet ownership. Another group of small pets that people should consider are aquatic pets that can be kept in a small aquarium or a full blown aquatic tank. Aquatic pets can be as simple as a goldfish to very exotic marine life. They can be freshwater or saltwater, fish or other types of marine life such as shellfish, seahorses and the like. No matter what type of aquatic pets you have or want, each requires their own special type of care. The main point is that small pets are a great way to have a pet in a small area or room. They require minimal care when compared to larger pets and are great for people that live in an apartment or room.

Another type of small pet that is great for apartment or room living is a bird. Birds come in a large variety of species, sizes and temperaments. Birds require a small amount of space but, they can give a large amount of satisfaction when it comes to pet ownership. There are an infinite number of color variations as well as sizes that will be sure to please a large number of people.

Another group of pets would be considered large pets. These pets could vary from a pot bellied pig to a horse. Of course these types of pets will need a large amount of room to get the exercise they need to maintain their health. Even with that in mind, many people have these types of pets and are very happy with them. One thought about owning a large pet is the cost of taking care of them. Besides the cost of housing them, you have to consider the costs involved with the supplies they will need. The cost of food is of course higher, any equipment they or you may need (things like saddles, tack for a horse, etc.). There will be a lot more time required to take of larger pets, not just for their care but, you have to be ready to devote time to keep them happy. A lot of thought needs to go into the acquiring and caring for a larger type pet.

So, besides the types of pets talked about above, small pets, large pets, aquatic pets, we have one more type of pet that has a very large following. That would be exotic pets. exotic pets have gained popularity in an increasing number. Exotic pets can range from lizards, snakes, terrapins to ferrets and exotic breeds of dogs and cats. People have monkeys and llamas, spiders and insects. Each one of these types of pets will require it's own habitat, special foods and special care. Most exotic pets can be considered small but, their housing, care and feeding may involve quite a bit more than you are willing to apply. One of the main considerations of owning an exotic pet is the laws that may apply for the state or locality you want to have your pet in. The laws vary as to what types of exotic pets can be legally kept. Before you get an exotic pet (especially an unusual one), you will have to check on your laws. You really do not want to get a pet only to find out that it cannot be kept in your local. That would cause hardships on you as well as the animal. Remember, the idea here is Loving All Pets, not Harming ANY Pet!

Pet Supplies Can Be Pricey But You Can Save Money If You Know Where to Look!

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Pet supplies are something that every pet owner has to buy at some point. The topic is large and includes everything from food to bedding and toys. A lot of options are available and there are a lot of pet stores in the UK these days so you should easily be able to find something for your furry friend.

Doing your research is important for a purchase like this and you'll need to ensure that you know your pet well before you buy anything. You'll need to know what your pet needs and how you can best make them healthy and happy.

Pet supplies can include food and bedding and these are probably the most important things that you'll need to think about. If you own a dog or a cat then feeding your pet will be quite expensive when compared to something like a hamster or guinea pig. Rabbits are actually more expensive to keep that people think so you'll need to keep this in mind.

If you own a cat or a dog then you'll need to consider the varieties of food available and you may need to try a few different options until you find something that your pet likes. A lot of dogs and cats are very picky when it comes to food so you may need to buy small quantities of each brand and see which they like best before you buy in bulk.

Most of the time, smaller animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters eat a fairly simple diet which is cheap to buy. However, rabbits are actually a lot more hard work than people think. They require a large amount of hay each day as well as fresh vegetables and possibly a nugget based food which is high in fiber.

A lot of people mistreat rabbits without even realising it because they require more than people realise. However, when it comes to most animals, you should find that it's relatively easy to buy what they need and you can always seek advice from your vet if you need to.

Pet supplies are available from a wide range of places both online and offline. The most popular and well known store offline is a place called Pets At Home. They stock a huge range of pet items such as food, toys, bedding, health products and more.

Online, you should be able to find all these items at slightly lower prices, depending on what you need. It's a good idea to have a good look around online and set yourself a budget based on prices you see so that you don't overspend.

Always make sure that you are buying the appropriate food and bedding for your pet. You will be able to learn more about what pet supplies you need to buy by asking your vet or perhaps by looking online and finding out information. It can also be a good idea to buy a book about caring for your pet. Most pets are easy to look after but it requires a bit of common sense as well as money!

Writer Poppy J Mills talks about going for pet supplies for your furry friend. http://www.pawsaway.co.uk has great information on dog toys and other pet supplies, you'll surely be able to purchase what you require.

A Guideline For Choosing Exotic Pets

Saturday, October 3, 2009

There are several concerns that must be addressed if you want to get an exotic caged pet. Some of them are cited here:

Impulsive buying- Exotic animals are often bought for their novelty and the common mistake of impulsive buyers is that they ride on the novelty factor these animals project. What most people do not realize is that caring for exotic caged pets can sometimes last for several years, several months at least. This duration requires dedication and careful attention to the needs of the pet. It is therefore imperative that long term commitment is a must when owning an exotic pet.

Health concerns- Animals have diseases that are transferable to humans. There are also those human diseases that can affect animals. Either way, your health or your pet's health is jeopardized. While the incidence of zoonosis is quite rare, the scientific term for animal diseases that are transferable to humans, you should still know the risks that an animal disease can pose against you.

Legalities and the laws- Needless to say, different states have different laws that govern the domestic care of exotic pets. The last thing you would want to get involved with is breaking the laws that protect animal rights. Prior to buying, be sure that you are well-informed with the laws. Also, refrain from thinking that you can get away with them, you can't. For all you know, PETA might go after you.

Sociability of the animal- While domestic exotic pets have been trained to live among humans, their instinct cannot be totally eradicated. On top of that, these animals have temperaments that might not fit your own. Some caged exotic pets are sociable, some are not. Your choice of a pet is dependent on whether you would like to have a pet that you can handle any time you want and one that wants to be handled regularly or one that wants to be left alone.

Expenses- Caring for a pet, exotic or otherwise, requires regular maintenance which is inclusive of food, visits to the veterinarian, supplies, housing and others. Like normal pets, they are quite costly to maintain and they cost extra since most of their medicines, food and supplies are rare and have much higher prices than the common ones.

Potential harm the pet can cause- There are some exotic pets that are aggressive, dangerous and sometimes even lethal. Your best choice is one that is beyond these characteristics.

Go Green With Natural Pet Products

Friday, October 2, 2009

If you like the idea of natural pet products then you are most probably concerned not only about the safety of your pet, but also the environment in general. Great!

On the other hand you may have only just heard about organic, earth friendly and natural products for dogs, and would like to learn more about these helpful alternative choices. Believe me, once you do, it will bring new meaning to the idea of "spoiling" your pets. Plus, Fido will be able to brag that he's doing his bit to go green!

But that's only half of the story. Once you get into protecting your dog from from harmful substances, it just naturally spills over into almost every area of your life. You'll find yourself looking for similar earth friendly products for your home and your family's personal care. The good news is that simple steps like these can really make a difference in helping to protect the beautiful planet we call home!

Okay, now to cut to the chase, I'm here to give you the low down on the how, what and where of eco-friendly dog products so that your pet's impact on the planet can be minimized.

Right off the bat, you'll be glad to know that there's quite a wide range of products that fit into the natural pet products category. Just to give you an idea, you will find them in the areas of dog food, skin care and grooming, flea prevention and control, dog beds, dog collars, waste and clean up, dog toys, pet clothing, and even more.

A great many of the products qualifying for the "green" label, have been made possible by using materials that in the past were thrown into landfills and stayed there forever. Recycling these waste materials is now the name of the game and is what I am referring to. In addition to this, the development of biodegradable materials that break down quickly and can even go in with your compost, has also made a positive impact.

When it comes to your dog's food, during the pet food recall a couple of years ago, a lot of people's eyes were opened to some big name products that contain very questionable and oftentimes downright harmful ingredients. Thankfully, we have entered a new generation of all natural dog food that is home grown, nutritionally rich, free of low grade fillers, chemical additives and so on. You still have to be picky and read labels, but now your dog can live a more vibrant life thanks to some wholesome, human grade food choices.

Pet Beds - Stain Resistant, Moisture Resistant, Outdoor and Eco Friendly

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Surprisingly or not surprisingly, textile selection is extremely important when selecting a fabric for your pet bed as there are many factors to consider. Dogs and Cats alike aren't overly vigilant in washing their paws, tummies or backsides when jumping onto their bed, therefore we have to consider several factors when selecting the right bed for them.

Stain Resistance : dogs and cats are somewhat messy animals as they don't wash their paws when jumping into bed, they don't wipe their faces after meals and when they pick (selectively pick, that is) trash from the garbage, they don't always pick the cleanest to devour on their bed... which should really make you consider a pet bed that has stain resistance properties such as Crypton.

Moisture Resistance: Again, dogs and cats sometimes have accidents, unfortunately not always intentional. Moisture has the potential to pose as a problem, but not for the super fabric, commonly known as Crypton.

Odor Resistance: Foul odors can sometimes harbor in textiles if not treated immediately.

Eco-Friendly: of course the environment is important to all of us, but think about this.... A textile that's not only aesthetically appealing, but is also environmentally friendly, sounds like Crypton.

Machine Washable : Of course you don't want to pay for dry cleaning bills, we don't either. Throw it in the wash, Crypton is machine washable.

The Advantages of Crypton: Spatter it with mud, douse it with water. Do your best to stain it and soak it. Only Crypton's patented technology can create eco-friendly pet beds that are stain, moisture, odor and bacteria resistant. The dog beds are not only clean, strong and built to last they're easy to spot clean and have a removable cover that makes machine washing quick and convenient. Plus, when you use Crypton's EPA-approved Disinfectant & Deodorizer, the dog beds are completely disinfectable. You won't find a more long-lasting, beautiful pet bed for your pet.

Cool Pet Accessories

Monday, September 28, 2009

We are all familiar with basic pet accessories that we use to help better manage our pets. For example, we need bowls to provide food and water, as well as leashes so we can take our pets on walks. There are many cooler pet accessories out there which can improve other things about our pets, including their health and physical appearance.

When you groom your pet, you are often left with a lot of hair that ends up in the trashcan. However, there is something more productive you can do with these leftovers. There are services which take pet hair and turn it in to yarn, and then knit that yarn in to various kinds of clothing for your pet. What is cooler than your pet wearing clothes made of their own fur? The yarn is so refined that it does not even seem like it was made from hair, and since you provide the starting materials, you also save money.

Most of us who have cats have observed how they enjoy eating grass. Some cats can handle it well, but others can get sick from it. To satisfy this desire, you can purchase a small cat garden which automatically grows several types of edible grass, which not only are highly enjoyable for your cat to eat, but they also improve their digestive health.

Also in the health department is supplements, which can be easily mixed in with food. Your pet will not even know its there, but they will still get all the benefits of having extra vitamins and minerals in their diet.

You can learn more about other cool pet accessories by visiting the author's website, which is found at http://coolpetaccessories.blogspot.com.

Feeding Your Pet - Pet Food Labels

Sunday, September 27, 2009

As a pet owner, you undoubtedly want the very best for your pet. Yet, you may be causing harm to your dog or cat without even realizing it if you are not reading the labels on your pets' food. You would check out the label on your food before you eat it, wouldn't you? So, why wouldn't you do the same for your pet? The reality is that, if you want your pet to live a long and healthy life, reading the labels and selecting your pet's food carefully is essential.

What to Expect on Your Pet's Food Label

Just as with food manufactured for humans, pet food manufacturers must meet regulations that are established by the Department of Agriculture as well as the Food and Drug Administration. As such, pet food labels must also include certain types of information in order to help you make the most nutritious choice.

When you look on the label of a box, bag or can of pet food, you will find two different sections. One section, which is referred to as the "principal display" will include the name of the pet food as well as some of the specific ingredients included in the food. The other label is the "information" section. Here, you will find more specific information about what is included in the food you are considering buying.

Obtaining the Information You Really Need

While the principal display does provide some useful information that will help you start the process of narrowing down your food choices, the information section is where you will find the majority of the information you need to make your final decision. Here, you will find the complete list of ingredients as well as specific feeding instructions and nutritional claims.

Just as with human foods, you should keep in mind that the ingredients listed on the label are in descending order. This means that the ingredient listed first is the ingredient found in the greatest abundance, while the ingredient listed last is found in the least abundance. Knowing this is helpful when it comes to selecting the right food. If your pet needs a diet that is high in protein, for example, you should look for a food that lists different types of meats as the first two ingredients. If your pet needs to follow a diet that is low in protein, on the other hand, it would be better to select a food with several different carbohydrates listed within the top ingredients.

In addition to looking at the ingredients included in the food, you should also consider the nutrient content. If you are comparing various types of dry foods to one another, you can make a direct comparison of the nutrient densities listed. If you are comparing a moist food to a dry food, however, you will need to calculate the dry matter nutrient amount. To do this, subtract the percent of moisture present in the food from 100 and then multiply this percent times the values that are listed on the label. Obviously, the greater the nutritional value, the better the food will be for your pet.

While it may seem like a lot of trouble to go through in order to pick out the right pet food, you will be glad you took the time when you see how happy, healthy and beautiful your pet looks. In addition, once you find the right food, you will know exactly which product to purchase the next time you head out to buy food for your beloved pet.

Pamper Your Pet With a Grooming Service

Saturday, September 26, 2009

If you have a pet that you love and you just don't have time for the upkeep then you should consider pet grooming services. These types of services can make your dog or cat feel and look absolutely fabulous with a fresh shampoo. But they also provide more than just a good wash. You can get your cat or dog massaged, their ears cleaned, nails trimmed, teeth brushed, and so much more.

If your animal has been sprayed by a skunk or has matted hair and needs to have the royal treatment then a pet groomer can ensure it is taken care of by shampooing and making your dog's hair look shiny and clean.

Dogs in particular need to be cleaned and taken care of properly. Grooming is important in the hot summer months so they can feel nice and cool without all of the excess hair. When you take your dog in for pet grooming services they will also benefit by getting their ears cleaned and even their nails trimmed. You may not feel comfortable trimming your dog's nails because you may have already cut them once too close and made his paw bleed. A pet groomer can professionally trim your dog's paws so they no longer scratch. This is the safest way to avoid harming your animal.

Your dog's teeth need to be taken care of just like you take care of yours. You may give your dog bones to keep his teeth healthy and strong. However, bad breath can be a problem and you are supposed to brush your dog's teeth. Pet grooming services also provide teeth brushing so your dog's teeth can be fresh and clean. This will also help them remain healthy and strong.

Anyone who has a pet wants it to live for a long time. You should be sure your pet is healthy and clean. Many people take their pets to a groomer if they have a show dog but this is not the only reason. Giving your dog a day at the doggie spa is luxury for your pet. Plus, your pet will love you for it too when they come home with a fresh shampoo, trimmed nails, clean teeth and ears, and much more.

Pet grooming services also provide pet massages if you find that you are away for long hours and unable to give your dog the attention that you should. Dogs love a good massage just like you do and it shows them that you care.

When it comes to keeping your pet happy and healthy there is nothing more important than proper pet grooming. Whether you take your pet for professional pet grooming services, do the job yourself, or call up a mobile pet grooming company, you are demonstrating your love and affection for your pet.

Pet Sitting Business - A Growing Business

Friday, September 25, 2009

There are over 6 million households in Canada who own a pet or two. Dogs and cats are the most popular pets, while dogs are the most favoured dogs among pet owners primarly because dogs are most affectionate.

It used to be that when pet owners go away on holiday, they would leave their pets with a neighbour, relative or friend, or with a kennel service. However, many families do not live close to each other and kennels can be quite expensive while not necessarily providing a happy atmosphere for pets. Thus, a new service business of pet sitting and pet walking is born.

Today, the pet sitting service has become a mature business. NAPPS, the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters provide publications, training videos, insurance information, and other business resources for its members. Canadian equivalent of such an association is the All Canadian Pet Service Network. Typical pet sitting fees are $15 for a one-to-one 15 minute pee break, $20 for a 20 minute pee break. Group walks are also available at lower rates. Clients are not limited to pet owners on vacations. Some stay-at-home pet owners book 2 to 3 services a week for extra relief from walking their pets. Typically, the owner would leave house keys to the pet sitting service, and the sitters would come to the house and take the pets out for a walk. Reputable pet sitting services run a criminal check on their pet sitter employees and provide insurance bonding. Some pet sitting service also offer dog obedience training and puppy potty training as well.

My husband and I had the unfortunate experience of having to care for a pet while her owners went away for a holiday. The first night, we both forgot that we had the dog, and left our front door open. It was not until four hours later than we remembered we were caring for the dog, and had to have a search party. Luckily, we found the dog. She had wandered away to the neighbour's yard, and was crying. The dog felt so lonely while staying with us, and wouldn't eat for the first two days. After our valiant efforts in entertaining her and giving her a lot of pats and talk, she finally warmed up and felt comfortable.

After this episode, I have learned not to take care of somebody's dog and will gladly refer them to a pet sitting service. I am sure many non-pet owners felt the same way. In fact, many pet sitting services sell gift certificates which make ideal presents for all occasions.

Dogs are social animals, and love company. They also need daily walks and exercises at least once, and preferably twice a day. Without proper attention, dogs can be destructive and manifest behavioral problems. Older arthritic dogs who are not so agile, may not adjust well to new surroundings. If you are travelling and will be away from your pet, consider giving your pets quality care by using a pet sitting service.

If you love pets and want to start your own business, consider a pet sitting service. It can be run from home, and has low startup costs. Several add-on products such as dog accessories, and dog food can also bring in additional income. Here's another plus! This type of jobs cannot be outsourced to a third world country.

Pet Adoption Rules - Advice & Guidelines to Help You

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Adopting a pet is a great way to add to your family, but there are some rules you should follow when adopting a pet, to make sure it all run smoothly. After all, you don't want the trip to the pet shelter to be full of arguments and chaos; you want it to be a smooth, clear, decisive process. So here are some guidelines to help your pet adoption experience run more smoothly.

Before You Visit the Shelter:

Make sure everyone in the family is in agreement regarding the type of pet you want to get (dog, cat, etc.) and also the breed, size and gender of the pet.
Make sure everyone is aware of animal safety. Make sure nobody is going to be frightened when approaching an animal, particularly large dogs for example.
Make sure everyone knows exactly what to expect. There will be many animals there, all wanting a good home, but you can only take one home with you.
At the Shelter:

Be sure to remind your children of the rules you have set out regarding the adoption of a new pet.
Take a brisk walk past all the animals, and narrow them down to a handful that you would possibly like. Then go back to each of these animals and give them a closer look.
Be sure to ask the shelter staff any questions, for example the history of the animal, it's behaviour, it's health.
After Your Visit:

Go home and sit down as a family and discuss which your favourite pets were. Then try to come to a unanimous decision.
Call the shelter and inform them of your decision.
Make plans to collect your new pet.
Most pet problems are totally unnecessary and easily fixed, but most people simply don't know where to turn for help. The solutions to your pet problems are much simpler than you think. Take the first step in getting the well-behaved pet you've always wanted by visiting Pet Obedience Training

Pet Health is Essential For Every Animal and Every Size

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

If you have a pet then you will know that it can take up a lot of your time and energy in caring for it. That's why keeping an eye on your pet's health is important, because it could reduce the long term possibility of illness, vet expense and distress for you, the pet owner, and indeed the pet.

Give Your Pet Some Attention

Pet health is essential for every type of animal, from your goldfish to your guinea pig. However, each animal requires individual attention in order to identify their weaknesses and if they might need veterinary treatment. Your pet might just need minor treatment, but if it can be avoided by doing your own pet health checks, then all the better. Knowing where to look and what to look for is an important part of conducting health checks for your pet, so some helpful hints might be just what you need.

Large vs Small Animals

There is information available on the web which details what you need to look for as part of your daily or weekly pet health checks, so use this information wisely and make a note of what you need to do. Larger animals like dogs will often require day-to-day pet health checks due to their size and the fact that they have more areas that possibly need to be checked. When it comes to smaller animals like rabbits or gerbils, these might only require a weekly check, but it is important to ensure that it is a thorough one and conducted properly. Because your pet dog might always be under your feet and making itself known to you around the house, it is often easier to conduct a pet health check because you can monitor him more closely and any changes in his temperament or mood will be more easily identified, therefore knowing if there is something not quite right, i.e. your dog doesn't feel well.

Smaller animals probably won't have you spending as long with the pet health check, naturally because there is less surface area for which to feel, but that doesn't mean that smaller pets should require any less of your attention when it comes to their long term health. Just looking out for little things like an overgrown claw or an accidental cut are important to sort out, so that they don't cause further problems.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Pets mean everything to their owners and they are often considered to be members of the family. In this case, just like you would look after your child's health, it is also important that you look after you pet's health. No pet should be neglected, and you should always make the time to give your pet a health check. Owners often forget that animals can't express how they feel verbally, so a pet owner's responsibility is to pick up on changes in mood and any visible changes like skin conditions, so that something can be done about it. Every animal, of every size, deserves a proper pet health check, and if you sense that something might not be quite right then speak to a vet for advice.

Choose a Pet Kennel That Meets Your Specific Needs

Monday, September 21, 2009

If you're thinking of purchasing pet kennels for your furry friend you won't be without choices. There are many different kennels available on the market today. The question to ask yourself is what you will be using your kennel for. Are you looking for a kennel for your yard or for a corner in your living room? Are you in search of a kennel to transport your pet to the vet in or a kennel to take along when showing your pet at competitions? While there are many choices, the reasons for their use are fairly typical; to keep your pet safe and protected. Whether you have one furry friend or three, choosing your pets kennels requires a little bit of knowledge. Let's explore the available options.

A modular kennel is the most versatile and can be modified to fit nearly any space both large and small. Many are constructed of wire and have steel frames. They typically come in panels and are fairly easy to assemble. Normally they're constructed to withstand the elements and are a good choice for outdoor spaces. It's important when purchasing a wire kennel to ensure that the quality is good and there are no exposed wires that can injure your pet. These kennels can be outfitted with roofs, doors and flooring. There are some modular kennels that can be stacked one on top of the other if space is an issue.

There are portable kennels that come in various sizes and can be used to transport your pet in the car, an airplane or while visiting the vet. They are typically lightweight and have a handle for easy transport. Some are soft-sided while others are made of plastic and metal. There are some that even come on wheels for convenience as well as practicality for large pets. If purchasing a kennel for airline use, it's important to make sure it's approved for this purpose.

Kennels that are sometimes referred to as "pet playpens" are also an option and come in various sizes, colors and materials. Some are made of plastic while others are made of steel and nylon or cloth material. The later tend to resemble playpens used for babies and are easy to fold and transport. Some are made of metal and are normally assembled in a hexagonal shape. These are sometimes referred to as "exercise pens".

There are car kennels or panels that are specifically used to section off a space for your pet while traveling in the car. They act as a barrier, allowing your pet to stay in a confined area usually in the cargo area behind the seats of a van or sport utility vehicle. If your pet will be taking frequent trips in the car, this may be the best option.

The Concept of Unique Pet ID Tags

Saturday, September 19, 2009

For what reason did you decide to purchase a tag for your pet? For many, the purpose is mostly functional. That is, the purpose of the pet tag is to provide readable contact information to someone who finds the pet if it wanders away from home. Now, while most people will be aware of the functionality of the pet tags, they may not be aware of the other benefits found with the tag. For example, it is possible to make a "pet fashion statement" with unique ID pet tags.

OK, the notion that one can make a fashion statement may be a somewhat illusory description of unique pet ID tags. After all, pets have no one they need to impress! But, it certainly can be a good thing when a lovable dog or cat is treated with unique pet tags that help show a little additional affection towards the animal.

For example, you could easily attach a generic pet ID tag to your dog or cat's collar. This would be functional but it would not be very assuming. But, purchasing a heart shaped unique pet ID tag would be a much better idea. Such an ID tag will add a nice touch whereas mere function might come off as purely antiseptic. It also will have the benefit of displaying your affection for your pet.

There are also functional aspects with unique pet ID tags. For example, most people assume that pet ID tags that come in the shape of a bone are intended to compliment the fact that the pet is a canine. In many respects, this would be an accurate assessment and there is more to it than that. Namely, a bone is shaped like a rectangle. That means it is possible to fit a great deal of contact information such as phone number, address, email, etc on the ID tag. This way, if someone needs to contact you regarding the pet, no contact information is left out of the equation. And, best of all, this functional information is masked within the shape of the bone making it much more visually appealing.

Of course, it is not impossible to engrave both sides of a pet ID tag. However, most people will not immediately look to the rear of the tag for information. This is why it is suggested that something along the lines of 'see reverse' is engraved on the front of the tag.

There is a great variety to the types of tags that are available. That means no matter what type of aesthetic you are looking for in your unique pet ID tags, you can find it if you look. The manufacturers of these tags understand the need for variety and that is why they produce so much of it.

It is also important to point out that not all engraving needs to be functional. Sometimes, a nice saying or a loving mention could be placed on the tag. Really, when it comes to unique pet ID tags you are only limited by your own creativity and imagination.

Unique pet ID pet tags are definitely something worth exploring for your pets safety. It helps having the ability to have choices in what you would like for your pet. Just like people have the option to choose their automobiles, clothes, cell phones, etc.., you now have an option for your pet as well. Now is the time to get protection for your pat at http://www.pets-u-bet.com
